Cozumel for Meeting Planners
This week I had an opportunity to go out on the road visiting meeting planners with Tulio Baruch, the InterContinental Hotel in Cozumel's Sales Manager. He showed them an amazing all new property in one of the more forgotten areas of Mexico.
The hotel is slated to be a AAA 5 diamond resort with both the Virtuoso and Leading Hotels of the World labels. They have taken a year to train their staff in the art of not only service, but information. They have done a great job of decifering what guests really want: the combination of excellent service and knowledge. Sound wierd? I thought so as well until I heard Tulio tell Planners that it was this one-year training program that would teach the InterContinental staff to empower our clients with knowledge. What do I mean? They bring a basket of fruits to your room daily with a different Mayan fruit with a letter explaining its origin and describing how it was eaten and what medicinal purposes according to tradition. They have even gone as far as to change the uniforms to represent more traditional attire.
The resort opens on October 15, and I am heading that way in November to check it out. I will post a note about my experience. I'm actually going all over Mexico.
Let me know if any of you need a special picture or comment about any of the InterContinental Hotels in the area, or any of the Brisas Hotels and Resorts, or the Royal Solaris in Los Cabos.
